What the Evotrex PG5 Actually Is

The Evotrex PG5 gets grouped with the electric trailers, and it does not belong there. Evotrex says as much in its own specifications.

The PG5 is a plug-in hybrid. Every version carries a 43-kilowatt-hour battery and a 75-kilowatt gasoline generator with its own fuel tank. The fully loaded PG5 Premium adds 1.5 kilowatts of integrated rooftop solar.

That generator recharges the battery automatically, whether you are towing or parked at camp. The distinction matters because it is the reason the PG5 does things no pure-electric trailer can do.

It also means that if you bought an EV to stop burning gasoline, this is the wrong trailer.

A Note Before We Start

Nobody has towed a production PG5, and that includes me. The trailer debuted at CES in January 2026, and no customer has taken delivery.

Everything below comes from Evotrex’s published specifications, from interviews the company’s founder gave to TechCrunch, and from my own arithmetic where I say so.

The Quick Answer

What the PG5 Does Better Than Anything Else

In its fully equipped Premium configuration, the PG5 offers more usable off-grid energy than anything in this category, at more than 270 kilowatt-hours. The pure-electric trailers carry between 45 and 77.

The optional RangeBoost system can also DC fast charge your electric tow vehicle at up to 60 kilowatts over NACS. RangeBoost is included with the PG5 Premium. That turns the trailer into a mobile charger and addresses the core reason towing with an EV is difficult.

What the PG5 Asks From You

This is the heaviest trailer in the group. The base model weighs 8,350 pounds dry with a 9,500-pound GVWR, and the Premium weighs 8,900 pounds dry with a 9,900-pound GVWR.

Evotrex publishes no tongue weight for either trim. The company also declines to advise buyers on which vehicles can tow it.

Evotrex PG5 Pricing

The base PG5 costs $119,990 and the PG5 Premium costs $159,990. Preorders require a $100 fully refundable deposit.

The distinction between those two prices matters. The $119,990 base includes the 43-kilowatt-hour battery, TowSync, and the 75-kilowatt generator. The $159,990 Premium adds the equipment that makes the PG5 especially interesting, including integrated solar, RangeBoost, the Terrece rear patio, power awning, dynamic skylight, premium interior, forged wheels, and other available options.

Evotrex told TechCrunch in June 2026 that roughly 90 percent of its order book is for the fully loaded Premium trim. That makes sense. For most people attracted to the technology being advertised here, this is realistically a $159,990 trailer rather than a $119,990 one.

Before you order, verify the numbers. Tongue weight and towing capacity vary by trailer configuration, options, and cargo, and by the exact year, make, model, trim, drivetrain, and equipment package of your tow vehicle. Two versions of the same truck can carry meaningfully different payload ratings. Confirm the trailer’s loaded tongue weight with the manufacturer for the specific build you are ordering, and confirm your vehicle’s tow rating and payload against the certification label on the driver’s door jamb and the owner’s manual. Weigh the loaded rig at a certified scale before a long trip.

Who Builds the Evotrex PG5, and Where

At $120,000 to $160,000, country of manufacture is a fair question. It is the same question I would ask about a kitchen renovation or a car, and readers deserve a straight answer.

Here is what the record shows, and the record is unusually clear because Evotrex’s founder has discussed it openly with reporters.

The Founding Team’s Background

Co-founder and CEO Alex Xiao spent years as a product manager at Anker Innovations, the Chinese consumer electronics company. Co-founder Stella Qin is also an Anker alum.

Evotrex’s chief technology officer previously led automotive research and development at Geely Group, the Chinese automotive conglomerate. The company’s chief operating officer, a third co-founder, held supply chain leadership roles at IBM, Lenovo, and Anker.

As of November 2025, Evotrex employed roughly 40 people, split between China and the United States.

Where the Funding Came From

Evotrex raised $16 million in seed funding from Anker along with the Chinese early-stage venture firms Unity Ventures, Kylinhall Partners, and Vision Plus Capital.

In June 2026 the company closed a $30 million Series A, bringing its total raised to $46 million. Much of that round came from a consortium of Chinese and Hong Kong investment firms including GSR United Capital, Forebright Concerto Capital, TTGG Ventures, and Pegasus Capital.

Where the PG5 Will Be Built

Xiao told TechCrunch that the plan is to manufacture most of the trailer in China and complete final assembly in California. He repeated that plan in June 2026, and said the company was still finalizing locations for both.

Evotrex is based in the Los Angeles area, and Xiao has said the location gives the company access to its target market and to varied nearby climates for testing.

Why This Matters at This Price

I am not telling you what to make of this. I own Anker products and Lenovo products, and I am not in the business of telling readers from which countries to buy.

The practical concerns are what matter on a six-figure first-generation product. Those are parts availability, service turnaround, warranty support, tariff exposure, and supply chain continuity if trade policy shifts.

Xiao acknowledged that last point directly, telling TechCrunch he expects challenges from United States trade policy. That is a candid answer, and it is more than most startups offer.

It also makes the comparison with Lightship interesting. Lightship does not merely maintain a Colorado headquarters, it builds the AE.1 in Broomfield. For a buyer weighing two trailers above $150,000, that difference is worth weighing.

Evotrex PG5 Weights and the Missing Tongue Weight

Integrated solarNot standard1.5 kW
RangeBoostOptionalIncluded

Tongue weightNot publishedNot published

The 550-pound difference in dry weight between the base and Premium is worth noticing. The Premium adds substantial hardware and equipment, including solar, the patio, awning, dynamic skylight, upgraded wheels and other features, while GVWR rises by only 400 pounds. In practical terms, the Premium starts 550 pounds heavier but actually has 150 pounds less cargo capacity.

What Cargo Capacity Really Buys You

The fresh water tank holds 60 gallons, and water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon. Filling it consumes 500 pounds.

On the Premium, that reduces your 1,000 pounds of cargo capacity to roughly 500 pounds. That number covers food, clothing, camp chairs, and gear for a family of four.

The practical consequence is that you will travel with a partially filled water tank on most trips. Plan for it rather than discover it at the scale.

Estimating the Tongue Weight

Travel trailers typically place eleven to thirteen percent of their loaded weight on the hitch ball. Applying twelve percent to a PG5 Premium loaded to its 9,900-pound ceiling suggests roughly 1,190 pounds of tongue weight.

The base PG5 at 9,500 pounds works out near 1,140 pounds by the same method.

Those numbers are mine, NOT Evotrex’s. They come from a standard industry ratio applied to a published GVWR. They are not specifications and you should NOT order a tow vehicle based on them.

Why That Number Decides Everything

Tongue weight comes out of your vehicle’s payload, not out of its towing capacity. Payload covers passengers, cargo, and hitch load together.

Most large electric SUVs do not have 1,200 pounds of payload to spare once four people are seated. Several full-size electric pickups do, though not in every configuration.

That is the conversation this trailer forces and Evotrex declines to have it. The company’s FAQ directs buyers to their vehicle’s owner’s manual and states that Evotrex does not advise on tow vehicle selection.

What to Do About It

Get the tongue weight in writing before your deposit becomes a purchase agreement. A $100 refundable deposit costs nothing to hold while you wait for an answer.

If Evotrex will not provide a figure for your configuration, treat that as information rather than as an inconvenience.

The PG5 Power System

Battery, Solar, and the Horizon Generator

Every PG5 runs a 43-kilowatt-hour automotive-grade lithium iron phosphate battery with the 75-kilowatt generator Evotrex calls Horizon. The Premium adds 1.5 kilowatts of integrated rooftop solar. Horizon produces up to 225 kilowatt-hours on a full tank.

In the fully equipped Premium configuration, total usable energy exceeds 270 kilowatt-hours, and Evotrex rates off-grid capability at seven days or more.

For comparison, the Pebble Flow carries 45 kilowatt-hours and the Lightship AE.1 carries 77. The PG5 has several times the available energy of either, because it makes more as it goes.

RangeBoost and Charging Your EV From the Trailer

RangeBoost provides vehicle-to-vehicle DC fast charging at up to 60 kilowatts over NACS. It is optional on the PG5 and included with the PG5 Premium.

With RangeBoost, the trailer can charge your tow vehicle at DC fast-charging speeds while you are parked far from the electrical grid. For an EV owner, this is the single most compelling feature in the entire category. It converts the trailer from a range problem into a range solution.

The standard PG5 can still charge another EV through its NEMA 14-50 outlet, but at up to 6.6 kilowatts rather than the 60 kilowatts available through RangeBoost.

Home Backup Power

The PG5 supports vehicle-to-home energy backup at up to 12 kilowatts. Evotrex lists that separately from its vehicle-to-load capability, which provides up to 12 kilowatts of power export through a NEMA 14-50 outlet and additional outlets.

In a region prone to hurricanes or extended grid failures, the home-backup capability solves a second problem entirely.

The Generator Trade-Off

You are running a gasoline engine to make that electricity, and reaction on owner forums has not been uniformly positive. The objection is practical as well as philosophical.

Some campers do not want a generator running at the site beside theirs, and many campgrounds restrict generator hours. Evotrex says the generator automatically engages when the battery is low and can recharge the battery whether you are towing or parked.

Treat that as a claim to test against your own camping style rather than as a settled answer.

Charging the Trailer Is Slow

Inbound charging maxes out at 6.6 kilowatts over AC, and there is no DC fast charging into the trailer. The generator makes that less critical than it would otherwise be.

It still limits you if you planned to top off the trailer during a charging stop.

Living in the Evotrex PG5 as a Family of Four

The Sleeping Arrangement Is the Best in This Category

The PG5 sleeps four across two beds that each measure 80 by 60 inches, which is a full residential queen in both cases. The main bed is fixed, and the second converts from the lounge seating.

Two proper queens means two adults and two children each get real space. Nobody negotiates over a narrow bed on night four of the trip.

Dimensions and Headroom

The trailer runs 28 feet 8 inches long and 9 feet 5 inches tall on the outside. The interior measures 22 feet 11 inches long with 6 feet 6 inches of headroom.

That headroom figure is worth noting, because it works for most people and feels tight for anyone taller.

Storage and the Pass-Through Tunnel

Interior cabinets total 83.5 cubic feet. The front pass-through tunnel adds 38.1 cubic feet and accepts items up to 7 feet 2 inches long in a space 4 feet wide and 16 inches tall.

Evotrex sized that tunnel for kayaks and boards. If your family travels with bulky sports equipment, it is the difference between packing the gear and leaving it home.

The Terrece Patio

On the Premium, the rear patio, which Evotrex calls the Terrece (their spelling not mine), deploys at the push of a button into 43 square feet of roofed outdoor space. It lowers further to work as a loading ramp for bikes and larger equipment.

The Premium also includes a power awning covering another 120 square feet on the side. Neither the Terrece nor the power awning is standard on the $119,990 PG5.

Kitchen, Bath, and Comfort

Evotrex’s current published specifications show a kitchen with a two-burner induction cooktop and range hood, a 10-cubic-foot refrigerator and freezer, and a three-in-one microwave, convection oven, and air fryer. There is one full dry bath with an instant tankless water heater.

Evotrex describes the Premium as adding a “premium interior,” but it has not yet published enough detail to establish exactly which interior equipment or finishes differ on the $119,990 base model. Until the final configurator is available, I would treat the published interior specification as representative of the fully equipped PG5 rather than assume every item comes with the base price.

Other published features include a 17,000 BTU heater and six openable windows with integrated bug nets and blackout shades. The Premium adds the dynamic skylight, which switches between clear and opaque.

Evotrex’s specification page still references a 48-inch projector and screen, but the company announced in June 2026 that customer feedback resulted in an integrated 72-inch cinema screen for the developing production model. That same update added modular removable dinette seating, a rear bug screen, and an optional enclosed patio bug-screen system. This is still a pre-production trailer, and some details are clearly continuing to evolve.

Chassis, Construction, and Tow Assist

How the PG5 Is Built

The trailer uses a high-strength automotive chassis with dual axles, air suspension, and 33-inch all-terrain tires on 265/70 R18 wheels.

Construction is zero-wood with multi-layer insulated walls. That approach addresses the water intrusion into wooden framing that destroys conventional RVs over time.

TowSync and Remote Maneuvering

TowSync is the adaptive tow assist system. A sensor at the hitch measures load, and a single electric motor applies torque to counteract drag, with regenerative braking feeding the battery.

The trailer can position itself onto your hitch ball and can be maneuvered by remote with no tow vehicle attached, using cameras on every side.

Note that the PG5 uses one drive motor where the Pebble Flow uses two. Whether that matters in practice stays unknown until people tow production units.

When Can You Actually Get One?

This is unusually difficult to answer because Evotrex currently gives three different timelines in its own public materials.

The company’s FAQ still says production is targeted before the end of 2026. Elsewhere, Evotrex says Premium buyers will receive priority when production begins in the first half of 2027. The current preorder page, however, lists estimated production as the second half of 2027.

The newest and most conservative of those dates is the second half of 2027, and that is the one I would plan around.

It also fits better with what Xiao told TechCrunch in June 2026: Evotrex had validated a functional version of the trailer but still needed another 10 to 12 months of durability testing.

Whatever ultimately happens, I would not make plans that depend on having a PG5 in the driveway in 2026. Evotrex is targeting roughly 1,000 units annually once production begins.

One Encouraging Signal

Xiao noted that Evotrex hired its first service employee roughly six months before it hired its first salesperson. On a first-generation product from a new company, that ordering says something useful about priorities.

Evotrex PG5 Pros and Cons

What Works

  • More than 270 kilowatt-hours of usable energy in the fully equipped Premium configuration, several times any pure-electric trailer here.
  • RangeBoost on the Premium charges your electric tow vehicle at up to 60 kilowatts.
  • Two full 80 by 60 inch queen beds, the best family sleeping arrangement in this category.
  • The Premium’s 38-cubic-foot pass-through tunnel plus Terrece patio gives a family substantial space for bulky gear.
  • Seven or more days off grid with no hookups and no rationing.
  • Zero-wood construction, air suspension, and 33-inch all-terrain tires.
  • The $119,990 base gives buyers a cheaper way into the battery, generator, and TowSync system if they do not need the Premium equipment.

What Does Not

  • No published tongue weight for either trim, on a trailer that likely exceeds 1,000 pounds on the hitch.
  • Evotrex explicitly declines to advise on tow vehicle selection.
  • The gasoline generator defeats the purpose for buyers who chose an EV to stop burning fuel.
  • A 9,900-pound GVWR on the Premium puts it beyond most electric SUVs entirely.
  • Roughly 500 pounds of usable cargo capacity on the Premium once the fresh tank is full.
  • The advertised $119,990 base price does not include solar, RangeBoost, the Terrece patio, power awning, dynamic skylight, or the Premium interior.
  • Inbound charging maxes at 6.6 kilowatts AC with no DC fast charging.
  • Nothing has been delivered, and Evotrex currently publishes conflicting production dates ranging from late 2026 to the second half of 2027.
  • Most manufacturing is planned for China with final assembly in California, which raises service, parts, and tariff questions.

Who Should Buy the Evotrex PG5

Buy the PG5 if you own a full-size electric pickup with the payload to handle it. Buy it if you want to camp genuinely off grid for a week without rationing power or hunting for hookups.

Buy the Premium if charging your tow vehicle at 60 kilowatts from the trailer solves a real problem on your routes. Buy it if the integrated solar, patio, awning, dynamic skylight, and upgraded interior are part of what attracted you to the PG5 in the first place.

Buy it if you have two children and want them in an actual queen-size sleeping space rather than a narrow converted bed.

Buy it if you carry bulky gear and the pass-through tunnel changes what your family can bring along.

Which Trim?

The base PG5 at $119,990 includes the 43-kilowatt-hour battery, Horizon generator, TowSync, and air suspension. That is a substantial amount of technology for the lower price.

But the $159,990 Premium is the PG5 most people are actually looking at when they see Evotrex’s promotional material. It adds all available options, including integrated solar, RangeBoost, the Terrece patio, power awning, dynamic skylight, premium interior, forged wheels, and more.

That $40,000 difference also helps explain the weight gap. The Premium weighs 550 pounds more dry while its GVWR rises only 400 pounds, leaving it with 150 pounds less cargo capacity than the base trailer.

With roughly 90 percent of Evotrex’s reported order book choosing Premium, most buyers seem to be reaching the same conclusion: if you want the PG5 for all the things that make the PG5 unusual, the realistic price is $159,990.

Who Should Skip the Evotrex PG5

Skip it if you tow with an SUV of any kind. A 9,500-pound trailer with an unpublished tongue weight is not a reasonable purchase for a vehicle you cannot verify against it.

Skip it if you bought an electric vehicle specifically to stop consuming gasoline, since the generator is central to how this trailer works.

Skip it if you camp mostly at sites with hookups, because you would pay a large premium for capability you will not use. Skip it if you need the trailer in your driveway this year.

Where to Go Next

Evotrex takes preorders with a $100 fully refundable deposit. The company also offers a calculator that estimates off-grid duration based on your appliances and the weather.

Use the calculator, and use the refundable deposit to hold a place while you get the tongue weight answer in writing.
