5 Carry-On Items I Never Travel Without

Air travel today is crowded, unpredictable, and occasionally chaotic. Over time I’ve learned that having a few reliable items in my carry-on can make travel significantly easier.

After enough delayed flights, lost luggage, and long international trips, these are the items that now go into my carry-on bag every single time I travel.

These carry-on travel essentials have made long flights and international travel noticeably easier for me.

1. Anker Prime Power Bank

Airplane power outlets are inconsistent at best. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t, and sometimes they are already taken.

The Anker Prime Power Bank has a large capacity and can charge multiple devices at once. It’s powerful enough to recharge phones, tablets, and other travel gear during long travel days.

What to do if your flight doesn’t allow a power bank this big? Check item #2.

2. Anker MagGo Power Bank

For lighter travel days I also carry the Anker MagGo Power Bank. It magnetically attaches to the back of the phone and charges wirelessly while you continue using it.

It’s compact and convenient . Also, some airlines limit the size of the power bank you can bring onto the plane.

Voila! In those situations, this power bank is perfect.

3. Apple AirTag (Gen 2)

If you travel even a few times per year, AirTags are one of the simplest pieces of technology that can save you a lot of stress.

We place one in every checked bag. On one trip last month, our suitcase ended up in a completely different country. The airline didn’t know where it was. The AirTag showed its location immediately.

We called. They found it. Next day, we got it back plus a nice credit from the airline.

4. BAGAIL Packing Cubes

Packing cubes seem like a small thing, but they make organizing luggage dramatically easier.

Instead of digging through a suitcase looking for specific clothes, everything stays organized. When packing for a family, you know what I mean. This is an easy way to keep the kids stuff organized and separated.

They also compress clothing so you can fit more into a carry-on bag. Who’d have thought air takes up so much space?

We liked the BAGAIL packing cubes enough that we ended up buying two sets.

5. TESSAN Universal Travel Adapter

If you travel internationally, a universal travel adapter is essential.

Different countries use different outlet types, and hotels do not always provide adapters. A good universal adapter allows you to plug in your devices almost anywhere.

We keep two of the TESSAN universal travel adapters in our travel gear. Always verify that the travel adapter works in your destination country.

6. Sony WH-1000XM5 Noise Cancelling Headphones

Airplanes are loud environments. Engine noise, conversations, announcements, and general cabin noise add up on long flights.

I use the Sony WH-1000XM5 noise cancelling headphones on most trips. The noise cancellation works extremely well and the battery lasts long enough for most long-haul flights.

Admittedly, I use my AirPods Pros on short domestic flights. But, for anything longer than two hours, I am going with my Sony.

For international travel especially, these are worth having.

These six items now live permanently in my carry-on bag.
